The Dance of Death was a popular text in Europe in the late Middle Ages and 1500s. Only one copy has survived of this Danish edition. The text reports, in rhymed verse, the conversations between the relentless Death and the people that Death seeks out, from pope and emperor to the poor wet nurse. They all find it equally difficult to accept the arrival of Death.
